Is your workplace like a brotherhood?

Is your workplace like a brotherhood?

It’s ‘like a brotherhood’.

That’s a term I heard about the All Blacks during the Rugby World Cup. Another term I frequently heard from players was, ‘I want to play well for the guys’.

It could be argued that one of the reasons the All Blacks have dominated two Rugby World Cups is not only do they have great talent they have a great culture. In short the All Blacks have built a culture of greatness.

To have a culture of greatness it requires leaders and managers to put the right people in the right positions where they are humble and hungry. If you don’t fit the culture you don’t last.

And as the management guru Peter Drucker said “Culture beats strategy every time”.

Culture happens – either by default or by design.

What culture do you have and how do you build a culture of excellence?

Great cultures are built by great leaders. Great leaders lead by example. They are role models and show passion, commitment, and clarity of purpose.

Do you have those traits in your organisation?

When you create a culture of greatness you create a collective mindset in your company that expects great things to happen— even during challenging times. Expect your team to dig deep especially. Expects to win!

In a culture of greatness you expect your people to be their best and do their best. You make it a priority to coach them to be their best and most of all you create a work environment that fuels them to be their best.

Unfortunately, a lot of businesses expect their people to do their best and yet they do nothing to support them, encourage them or train them so how can they create foster a culture of excellence.

A culture of greatness requires that you find the right people that fit your culture. Then you coach them, develop them, mentor them, train them and empower them to do what they do best. And if you have made a mistake with your talent identify it early and help those who don’t fit to get off your bus. Don’t give anybody the chance to destroy the culture you’ve work so hard to build.

There is nothing better than working at an organization with a great culture. You wake up every day looking forward to going to work on the mission with people you enjoy being around.

Is it a brotherhood in your organisation?
